A wiki is a webpage that provides a place to share variety information through the internet. Wikis allow a unique opportunity for multiple people to collaborate on the content of the site. Users of the site have the power to create, contribute, edit, and delete the content on the site. There are endless possibilities to the use of a wiki. The purpose of my wiki is to fulfill an assignment requirement in my EDTE 501class at Ohio University by keeping a journal on my wiki space.
Wiki in Education
Wikis is a wonderful tool and has many uses in an education setting. A wiki site could be used in any content area. Teachers can use the site to communicate information to parents or other teachers. This site also allows students to work together in showcasing their work online. By using a wiki in a classroom students are also learning valuable computer and technology skills. Wikis is another useful tool to help students gain new experiences and knowledge beyond a regular classroom setting.
Wiki in my Content Area

My content area will be Reading/Language Arts. I already several several ways a wiki site could be beneficial in this content area. Using writing prompts on my wiki and having students respond to the question would be a fun and different way for students to practice their writing skills. Other students in the classroom could then peer edit the responses on the wiki site. Wiki would be a great place for students to put book reviews on. Other students then could respond to the critique of the book and put their opinions on the site. I also think it would be fun to put some “sentences or paragraphs of the day” on the site and have students edit them. I could see myself using a wiki in this content area every day.
Wiki in my Classroom
When I become a teacher, I could see myself using a wiki in my classroom. I would love to have my students do a weekly journal entry on my classroom wiki. Putting useful classroom information on my classroom wiki for students and parents would also be important to me. It would foster good communication with all parties involved. I would like to do some sort of group collaboration on wiki as well. I see endless possibilities of using wiki site in my future classroom.
